Our family had two Newfoundlands over a span of twenty years – the first from a back yard breeder, and the second from a well-respected breeder who did all the appropriate health tests. The difference in both health and temperament between the two dogs was striking, and when we were looking for a smaller, more manageable breed, health testing was uppermost in my mind.
I researched every single Boston breeder west of the Rockies, and some in the east. It was important to me that our breeder (a) carefully health tested prior to each breeding and continued to test where appropriate; (b) was active in supporting the breed, whether through conformation or performance competition; (c) had thought through a protocol for raising their puppies.
In Dolores and John, I found all three. Dolores and I corresponded for several months before she let me know that Archie was available, and he was four months old when he came to live with us. He is exactly as she described him to me – quiet, sensitive, a bit more cautious than his siblings, but ready for any adventure involving his humans and always good-natured and loving. He is the best little buddy anyone could ask for, and thanks to Puppy Culture his manners were impeccable from the beginning. He has been very easy to train, and is a joy to live with, reminding me each day to stop, play and live in the moment.
