The day we went to meet Rebel, I had no expectations beyond getting to spend some time with some Bostons. The first thing I did was get down on the floor. (Since I’m a pretty big guy, I always try to get down low when I’m meeting dogs for the first time so as not to intimidate them.) The door opened, and out came a black and white flood of seven or eight Bostons. They bounced all over me .. sniffing, licking, pawing at me .. generally checking me out .. and then they ran off. In a few minutes, they were back .. sniffing and licking and all the rest .. and then gone. This cycle repeated a number of times. Each time, there was one little girl who stayed a little longer. Before long, she didn’t leave when the others did. She just kept looking at me with the most beautiful big brown eyes. After about 20 minutes, I looked up at Dolores with Rebel between my arms and said, “I think she’s picked me.” She’s been my girl from the beginning.

I wanted a dog. A pure-bred Boston Terrier. I didn't think I cared whether it was show quality or not. I was *positive* I wanted a male. And then we met Rebel. She connected with John first, no question there. Two weeks later, she explored our kitchen with curiosity, getting to know her new home before joining me on the couch for some cuddle time. She looked at me and tilted her head as only a Boston can... just kept staring. I had flashbacks to the "heart animals" of my youth. Shooter, the parti color cocker -- a clown in and out of the conformation and obedience ring, and the self proclaimed guardian of my childhood playpen. Boots the black and white cat - at once curious and cautious... and cuddly on HIS terms. I could see pieces of both of them in this pointy eared, smooshy faced puppy. I heard my father's voice in the back of my head "when you figure each other out, she's going to be one showy little bitch." I'm honored that she is going to be the foundation of the next generation of "Delphi" dogs -- she is absolutely the center of our universe.
